Accentuate the Positive!

One of my New Year's Resolutions (ahem...my only resolution thus far) is to be more positive and uplifting. I have found that it is so easy to just jump to a "comeback" when someone says something provoking, rather than taking their comment into perspective. I am particularly bad at this when in my classroom. Students just seem to know what buttons to push, and I (the old me) tend to come right back with sarcasm or words that I later feel terrible about. So, this semester, it has been my goal to be particulary positive in my classroom. The first few days of the semester were so much easier than the next 8 (sadly), but I am marching forward with my goal in mind. I just feel like people receive so many negative comments and thoughts every day, that I don't need to be another source. They at least deserve one smile from me- even if I have to give them the bad news that whatever they just played (orchestra) for me went terribly wrong.
I have been thinking about this in my relationship with my husband, as well. I am so grateful that we never argue. Yeah right. But, I am grateful that we love each other enough to work it out pretty quickly. Sometimes I can't believe how quick I am to react, when I know how much we love each other! It's crazy- and I vow to do better! I love him sooooo much, and I am so thankful for the MANY things he does for me (even when I quite randomly burst into tears! I blame the hormones!)
